Dear Mr. Gupta,

The purpose of route determination is, where company will ship goods to the customer in various ways not only that it has optional of having "n" number of routes select the best one & based on his customer priority (time & money). For sending samples company will go for air, for delivering ordered goods it can go for different mode of transportation & routes.

The weight group is determined by the actual weight of all the items.

The document type determines whether the route is determined again in the delivery ( considering the actual weight of delivery again )

Weight group is also considered in determining the route during delivery, so that different routes may be porposed depending on the actual weight of the delivery.

Weight group is defined and assigned in IMG-Settings at:

SPRO --> IMG --> Logistics Execution --> Shipping --> Basic Shipping Functions --> Routes --> Route Determination --> Define Weight Groups

(T. Code: OVS8)

--> Maintain Weight Groups: you would define a weight group and up to what weight this weight group should apply

--> Maintain Details for Weight Groups: Assign the exact weights up to which the weight groups are valid using the corresponding weight units

Now,

SPRO --> IMG --> Logistics Execution --> Shipping --> Basic Shipping Functions --> Routes --> Route Determination --> Maintain Route determination

(T. Code: 0VRF)

Select your entry for Country of Departure, Dep. Zone, Dest. Country, Rec. Zone

Select Route Determination with weight group (delivery) - Assign your weight group to shipping condition, transportation group & route.

You can vary the route on the basis of weight.

Normally, Route is determined for each Item in the Sales order for each Item (taking weight group or with-out weight group into consideration) and copied to the Delivery document.

If, you want that, above certain weight your Route should be different.

For example , upto 50 KG, Route should be "R0005" and above 50 KG, system should redetermine the Route in Delivery as "R0001". Then you have to go for Route re-determination configuration.

Route is re-determined in Delivery and on the basis of weight group.

So, you configure the Route re-determination on the basis of the weight group.

IMG > Logistic Execution > Shipping > Route > Route determination > Maintain Route determination > "Route determination with weight group" OR "Route determination with-out weight group".

Route gets redetermined in delivery based on weight (weight group)

The meaning of this statement is suppose if you have Route determination active in a sales order based on Departure zone of shipping pt,shipping conditions from SP,transportation group or loading group of the materials from MMR and transportation of ship to party

Based on this suppose if you have ship the goods from Chennai to Mumbai Route thro Road like from chennai to Andra,Karnataka then maharashtra and then if it touches Mumbai and suppose if your sales order weight becomes So many tonnes say 1000 tonnes and if you decide it is not ideal to follow this route and if you take a train route and it goes entirely in different direction and reaches Mumbai cost effectively in this case Route is redetermined in delivery

The logic behind this is

See Route determination is based on configuration which is done before sales order and picked up for each sales order item

But before making sales order we dont know order qty so we dont know weight

After confirming the order only we find the weight of the materials to be shipped is so much , hence the route which has come in sales order may not be cost effective and if we take another route then it is going to be cost effective hence Route gets redetermined in delivery

Whether Route redetermination is possible in delivery is based on configuration of delivery doc type that is t code OVLK

Hi,

The weight group is determined on the basis of the total weight of the delivery. It helps to re determine the route on the basis of weight of the delivery goods. Ex: You have already determined a air route for the delivery, but in delivery you find that total weight of the delivery is more, then it will be reasonable to deliver this by road here weight group plays important role.

Dear Gupta,

-->You can consider weight group as one of the key factor in the route detrmination.

-->You can have different route determination option when the weight groups are different.

-->If you do the route determination with weight group option systen will get determine the route for the specific weight group.

Weight group

A grouping used in delivery processing that refers to the weight of a material.

The weight group is one of the factors the system uses to determine the route. It is used in delivery scheduling to determine pick and pack time.

I hope this will help you,

HI,

At the time of delivery system will also determine the weight apart from destination, departure, transportation, shipping conditions.

This is mainly due to the sequnce in which loading has to take place during delivery,

U will create weight group and will assign the sequence to it, classifying permissible weight in that sequnce.
