Hi ,

Whenever i try to access the sdn home page , it throws a popup asking me to accept "client authentication". But no certificate is shown to view and press ok. i may be naive here , but then why does it happen everytime i access sdn ? Is it because i ve always been accessing it from inside a corporate network ?

Thanks

Saravana

I get the same thing. It is not because you are accessing from corporate network, because I get the same behavior at home. I don't pretend to be a web security genius, so I really don't know what it is there for.

Hi Rich ,

Nice to see there are other ppl as well who get this "unreadable" popup . Jokes apart , i think it is something to do with browser settings , i use IE6. May be some cookies(!!) get downloaded every time we access sdn.

i just blurted out this beleieving ur words that you are not a genius on web security

cheers

Depends on what popup you are talking about. There are three possible ones that happen when connecting or navigating to a website. The first is the security warning one. That happens when you navigate between http and https sessions.

The Please accept this certificate one can happen for the same reason. It can also happen if you have your cookie settings at a high enough level that you get a prompt when a site sends you one. Since we use them, this is a distinct possibility.

If you are using a shortcut to connect that you saved, it may be how you saved it. I think you are guaranteed to get this if you are using a url like http://www.sdn.sap.com/whatever. If you use the redirected url http://sdn.sap.com, or what it resolves in to which is https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn, then I don't think you get the security popup.

Try changing your cookie settings and check your shortcut link definitions and see if changing them makes any difference.

You might also want to add us to the Trusted Sites list.

Hi David,

I am referring to this.

popup window name - Client Authentication

Dialog content

The website you want to view requests identification

Select the certificate to use when connecting

I get this popup as soon as i enter the url http://sdn.sap.com in the IE browser window. I will check my cookie settings in the browser, Thanks for the response

Sara,

I guess you are talking about the Single sign on (SAP Passport). If you got Service.sap.com, on the bottom right hand side, you can configure a SAP Passport, which installs a cookie with your logon credintials on your system. Once you do this, next you go to SDN / Service Market Place this pop up comes up with the list of certificates you have configured. You just choose and you are automatically logged in with the credentials that you have configured and you don't have to manually login anymore.

Ravi is correct. However, some people have their browsers configured to annoy them regardless of whether a certificate is present or not. To change this so it does not prompt you for a DC, you can do the following in IE.

Go to IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security

Use the Custom Level button while Internet Zone is highlighted.

Scroll down the list until you get to the words "Don't prompt for client certificate selection when no certificates or only one certificate exists".

Make sure to select the Enable radio button choice beneath those words. Press OK and OK to get out.
