Good afternoon,
my 32-bit R/3 4.7X110 runs on WIN 2003 32-bit and MSSQL 2000. I want to add an aditional "dialog server" to the instalation, running on a WIN2008 Hyper-V VM. SAP only supports virtualization of 64-bit guest OS (note 674851), so I will have to install the VM with WIN 2003 64-bit.
What's the better combination of OS/SAP Kernel to use in this Virtual Machine? May I run the some 32-bit kernel of the central instance on the VM? May I run the VM on 32-bit WIN2003? Shall I use WIN2003 64-bit and SAP Kernel 64bit in the dialog? is this supported by SAP?
Thank you
Best regards
According to Note 814834 - Windows 2003 SP1 x86_64 Support for SAP releases:
<...>
For product versions based on kernel 6.40 and higher, only 64-bit operation is supported. Operating a 32-bit 6.40 product version on Windows 2003 SP1 64-bit, for example, is not supported.
<...>
Since 4.71 needs to run a 6.40 kernel (6.20 is out of support) that statement is valid for your environment.
You can, however, install a 64 bit application server and run it against a 32bit datbase, however, I would upgrade the database server also to 64bit.
BTW: 4.71 runs out of support in two months (end of march).
