Hi All
We are looking at enabling some ESS/MSS transactions for the Mobile devices, (specifically Motorola Phones which have a screen of 2 x 2 inches). The transactions that we are specifically interested in are:
Leave Request
Expenses
Who's who
Workflow (Universal worklist)
Can anyone let me know how should i go about this ? As we have Business Packages to implement ESS/MSS on portal, what kind of package do we have to implement the same on Mobile ?
Also Can anyone tell me an approx time estimate to implement it ?
Regards
Sonal
Dear Sonal,
You can develop custome applications similar to SAP's own Proof of Concepts found on this page (scroll down to see the POC Demos on that page):
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-mobile?rid=/webcontent/uuid/20ffed54-9812-2a10-9fb5-cb973a37ba3b [original link is broken]
-> the POC is about:
1. Always connected - Mobile Travel Expense prototype for Blackberry, PDA
2. Always connected u2013 Workflow Inbox approval for trip, leave request, purchase order
Or, you can simply use the GuiXT Mobile Suite:

Please mark the question as answered if my or others' post solved your question.

Thanks Dilip and Veera for the information.
The links posted by you talks about developing custom webdynpro applications accessible through mobile devices.
I just need to implement few standard functionalities provided by ESS as mentioned in my question.
Could you please let me know is there any way to implement the above mentioned functionalities ?
I dont want to create custom applications

Hi Dilip,
As mentioned, i am looking for UWL, leave request etc which i guess will not make any sense offline.
But i am not very sure. As i am basically looking for ESS specific functionality so i just wanted to know the feasibilty of the specifically mentioned ESS module.
Could you please give me the solution of any ?

Hi,
Can I just ask this simple question:
Sure you can modify the PA30 transaction with Infotype 2001 to create a leave request.
However, lets say I use ESS/MSS. If I create a leave request on the portal, is there any way to determine that there is a request that is awating approval?
Similarly, as a manager I would have multiple leave request approvals in my inbox (MSS), is there any way to obtain this information from R/3?
Please advise.
Thanks.
Hi,

You would create an absence, not a leave request. An absence is created when a leave request is approved.

Yes, there are function modules and BAPIs to get a list of requests, approve and reject them etc... Here's the list of function modules used for this scenario : http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/en/f6/263359f8c14ef98384ae7a2becd156/frameset.htm

Hello Sonal,
SAP mobile application suite has the following list of applications:
1. SAP Mobile Time and Travel
2. SAP Mobile Asset Management
3. SAP Mobile Direct Store Delivery
4. SAP Mobile Asset Management for Utilities
etc
Probably you could use SAP Mobile Time and Travel out of the box from SAP. Please check this solution at:
http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/erp/mobiletimeandtravel/index.epx
For any other functionality which is not part of the standard suite you can use SAP NetWeaver 7.0 / 7.1 as the middleware and implement your own mobile application to talk to the SAP backend.
SAP's standard BAPIs can be made use from the SAP backend and a new solution can be developed tot meet your requirements.
Hope this helps.

Dilip
