We are about to launch a major hardware upgrade for our SAP systems.
We will be going from R/3 Enterprise 4.7 x200 32 bit to 64 bit. I am
currently running Solution Manager 3.2 on an system that doesn't heve
enough resources to upgrade to SolMan 7.
I have a test machine set up in our VMware environment that is running
Windows 2003 64 bit. Can I install Solution Manager 7 on a virtual
machine? Right now my biggest concern is being able to utilized the
Maintenance Optimizer to assit with our hardware upgrade. Another
reason I want the OPtimizer is so I can download the 64 bit
installation and components.
If it isn't possible to run SolMan 7 on a virtual machine then where
can I get the 64 bit installation components?
Can I install Solution Manager 7 on a virtual machine?
For VMWare on ESX Server is supported. All others are not.
Check https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/virtualization.
Also not all machines are supported.
The second question is: Which database do you use?
All database but Oracle are supported. If you use Oracle you won´t get support in case of problems, Oracle does not allow running production (which SolMan is considered) installation on any type of virtualization (as of now).
Yes - you can install SolMan on 64bit - you can get the DVDs at the usual places
http://service.sap.com/installations
Be aware that you also need a 64bit Java
