Hi @ all,

i have to install an additional Application Server for our BW dev. system.

Actually, we run BW on iSeries (app. + db. server).

Are there any important thinks or issues, i have to know?

Is somewhere a step-by-step introdution or how-to?

Thanks for your help.

this is a very old message with a lot of useful content and looks answered in general.

Hi,

now, the Application Server runs good.

There is one think, i have to turn off.

It seems that the Message Server on central instance use

load balancing or something like that.

I see users logged on at the "old app. server" in the process overview

of the new one. The Batch processes on the new one process RFC

Calls from the old app. server.

Also it seems to be, that ABAP tasksm created by users on the new server

is processed by the old server. Only java part is processed on the new

one.

Is it possible to avoid load balancing? So, if user is logged on to one of

the app. server, the processes (ABAP+Java) runs on this server?

Thanks a lot.

PS: The issue at Startup was the SAPSe<SID> User.

Hi Copernicus,

there are perhaps several areas, where you should look, but these should do most of the job:

- in your area, you are using 1 CI and 1 Win-Appl => just set the saplogon to the win appl - then all users will be logged on there

- setup upd, up2 & batch wps on the win appl

- change the RFC Destination (type 3) with the name of your SID to the win appl server

- check smlg and rz12

Hi Patrick,

normally, you are a basis consultant of that platform and install the appl server as (very good) described in the installation docu. Then you activate this one as you are used to with or w/o logon load balancing.

But:

On appl server ONLY helps, if the DB time is low and the processing time (or cpu time) is high - otherwise, it might be even worse ...

"Normal" customers on System i run such a system in 2-tier as you do have at the moment ...

For ADS this appl server is needed sometimes ...

=> just to install it in order to gain performance without checking the bottleneck beforehand is not really helpful.

Hi,

thanks for your answer. I read the installation guide, but i never installed an 3-trier system.

So i asked for known problems. I`m afraid of damaging the existing System.

Is there any change on the DB-Server? I don't ask for folder permissions, i ask for

changes on DB.

We want to install an additional application server for several tests and don`t need

load balancing.

Hi Patrick,

the good news is:

You cannot smash your DB server with that

Performance Optimization would be a point - but you will not care there ....

You need to setup the system, so that the buffer sync works fine - so most likely you need to change rdisp/bufrefmode from sendoff, exeauto to sendon, exeauto.

Then the sapglobalhost might need to be set or some other parameter - but SAPinst will tell you and you will then fix that ...

Hi Patrick.

Are you aware of the IBM redpaper '[An Overview of Installing SAP Applications on System i Models|http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpapers/pdfs/redp4189.pdf]'? There is a section about installing an application server on Windows to your IBM i database.

Best regards,

Jan Stallkamp

Hello,

that was exactly what im looking for. Thanks a lot.

Thanks to Volker for the good news, that i couldn`t smash the database during installation.

Jan, the redbook is perfect.

I think, the installation would be successfully and i`m ready for a first try.

Hi,

after a huge Problems, i was able to install the Application Server,

but it wouldn't start up.

At SAPInst Phase "Install instance basis" the SAP Service doesn't start.

Log Browser show errors like

Execution of command "C:\usr\sap\.......

finished with return code -1. Service not started.

On the Windows EventViewer are these errors

The description for EventID (0) Source (SAP???_??) cannot be found. The local

computer may not have the nessesary registry information or message DLL files to display

messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE=flag

to retrieve the description. See Help and Support for details. The following information is

part of the event:

Cannot open Profile on
<SAPHOST>\sapmnt\<SID>\SYS\profile\START_D<instance>_<localhost>

<..> are correct Values in error message. How ever, the Service is installed with user SAPSe<SID>.

Currently, i'm logged on as <SID>adm. I can map these path via Explorer.exe without any logon promts.

I can see and open the file. I added the User SAPSe<SID> to the folder and file permissions and

gave all rights, but it doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Hi Patrick

Make sure that the user SAPSe<SID> is defined on system i5(CI/DB host) and is having the same password as that on the windows system..as the windows service runs under that account...

Also make sure that the iSeries netserver is up...that is you are able to access the IFS via windows....

I am pretty sure, its the user SAPSe<SID> password issue ..

Once you sync it up just restart the service in windows and, it should be good...

Let us know,if you have any other questions
