Hi Guys!
I am unable to understand why the system is taking the 'material type' before a material key while creating a material. Ex: FERTcomputer
VERPbag. etc
but if i am creating a material with out entering a discription at 'material' field then it is generating a numeric no' as usual.
please help me
Thanks and Regards
KV
Material number could be assigned internally. Material Type is the most important field need to be entered manually. It is very difficult to change later. Hope it helps.

It's not a normal behaviour.
I believe there is a customization. Check if there is any user exit implemented that make the material type concatenate with the material number.

Hi KV
The MMR number range is done in t.code MMNR
Just click on the button groups to maintain the Material type grouping
Below are those material type that have no number range groups.
To assign a group, in the not assigned group, select the Material Type you want to group.
Then tick the Group you want to assign and click the menu path Edit -> Assign Element Group.
From the same screen, if you want a new number range intervals, click Group -> Insert Group.
If you want to use external number range, go to OMS2 and tick the field External no. assignment .
Two ways of assigning number range :
Internal number assignment :
In this case, a number within the number range interval allowed is assigned by the SAP R/3 System.
External number assignment :
user assigns a number within the number range interval allowed. You can define the intervals for external number assignment numerically and alphanumerically.
If you assign just one material type to a group, you can define both an internal and an external number range interval for the material type.
If you group together more than one material type, you can define an internal and an external number range interval here too. This allows several material types to have the same number range intervals.

Hi
External number range for material master In t code MMNR select groups in the application tool bar a pencil like icon click that
Then go to group in the top menu bar
In that if you choose insert
Then a dialogue box will open
In that give text and
there will be two lines
First is for internal no range
second is for external no range with the check box ticked in grey
In that you have to choose the second one and give only the range interval
External tick is already there ready made in the system
This no range object is again assigned to the material type
For a material type if both internal and external no ranges are assigned then in that case before giving external no or anything if you choose the material type and industry sector and enter then system automatically assigns internal no range
This is what is happening to you
If only external is assigned then without giving external no you cant go to any views at all for that material type
If only internal is assigned then external no you cant give at all for that material type
This no range assignment in T code MMNR is a bit confusing thing only
