What is the use of partner determination procedure for project

Dear all,

I have gone thr the partner det procedure for project systems.

Since I never worked on it, I am not able to understand what is the use of it?

It may so happen that, my project would need it.

If anyone would explain me @ partner det procedure for projects, how it is to be used and its practical use with an example would be of great help to me.

Pl dont explain me config steps as I understood them...expecting the practical use of it with an example.

I'll try to elaborate the similar example which Shrikrishna Rasam has given.

You are an Process equipment manufacturer.

You already have the information of component / activities.

Some customer comes to you with a ROI (request of Intent).

He explains his requirement asks you to manufacture a process equipment.

Lest say a boiler. Then you know what components will be needed.

You prepare a project (CJ20N), you WBS it.

Design, manufacturing, testin, QA etc...

You might have third level WBSE as well as components which are bought-out.

Based on your earlier experience you can plan costs for the entire project.

From the Project (in the planning phase) you come up with a Quotation cost which you offer to your customer.

This ground work, which was already done, will come in handy when your Quotation is realised.

You Get a PO from the customer (this time the info is detailed).

You create a Sales order (VA01) and you have this Partner information (sold to party and ship to party) which is also filled in along with the Project informatio.

You use the earlier created Project hierarchy as your operative proj.

With this kind of business scenario you have a tight integration of SD and PS module.

Hi ,

The partner det procedure is used in Customer Projects scenarios. when u have to generate sales quotation from the cost planning made in CJ20N. as us make the config for partner determination procedure u hv to maintain sold to party and ship to party for the project with reference to which quotation will be generated for the particular customer project.
