Hi There,

We are planning to upgrade our SAP systems (ECC5 & BI 7) to MS SQL 2005 SP3 (currently on SP2). Just wondering if anyone has implemented SP3. were there any issues with ECC5 & BI 7.0 with this new SQL SP3 patches ?

Could you kindly share

Thanks

Susanto

KT, Thanks

we just got a conflicting message from SAP support based in China which said SP3 is now supported and recommended to apply this patch hence my question in this forum, I am aware SP2 CU6 is the latest release available in SAP Marketplace and also the note you mentioned.

But, thanks for sharing you view .....

anyone else has SP3 experience ?

HI Susanto,

I would recommend you not do do the upgrade directly. Try it out on the Dev ( as usual)

Now I have not done the installation on SQL SP3, But I have good knowledge on SPs from Microsoft.

In case the SP3 causes some problem we can revert it back..

But the procedure is as follows in case of problem

To revert to a pre-SP3 version of SQL Server

Detach all user databases. For more information, see "How to attach and detach a database (Enterprise Manager)" in SQL Server Books Online.

Uninstall SQL Server. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs, select the instance of SQL Server that you want to uninstall, and click Remove.

Reinstall SQL Server 2005 from the CD-ROM or from the location where you originally installed SQL Server.

Apply any service packs and hotfixes that were installed before Database Components SP3.

Restore the databases master, msdb, and model from the last backup that was created before you installed. If the location of the data files has not changed, this restoration automatically attaches any user databases that were attached at the time the backup was created.

Attach any user databases that were created after the last backup of the master database.

Configure replication if necessary.

Warning When you revert to the pre-SP3 version of SQL Server 2005, all changes made to the databases master, msdb, and model since applying SP3 are lost.

Hi,

Think upto now there is no installation done with SP3 and in service market place also it is not there.

So I recommend to use only SP2, SAP also does the same.

Check this SAP Note 62988 - Patch recommendations for MS SQL Servers

Hope it helps
