Dear Friend,

Base Unit of Measure is Unit of measure in which stocks of the material are managed. The system converts all the quantities you enter in other units of measure (alternative units of measure) to the base unit of measure.

You can define the base unit of measure and also alternative units of measure and their conversion factors in the material master record.

Dependencies

Since all data is updated in the base unit of measure, your entry is particularly important for the conversion of alternative units of measure. A quantity in the alternative unit of measure can only be shown precisely if its value can be shown with the decimal places available. To ensure this, please note the following:

The base unit of measure is the unit satisfying the highest necessary requirement for precision.

The conversion of alternative units of measure to the base unit should result in simple decimal fractions (not, for example, 1/3 = 0.333...).

Inventory Management

In Inventory Management, the base unit of measure is the same as the stockkeeping unit.

Hope this helps...

Give point if useful...

Say if you set Base unit of Measure of a Material - "A" as MT (Metric Tonnes)

Then the system would treat all the stock movement & balance of material "A" in MT.

The most important thing to note is Base Unit of a measure of a material cannot be changed once the Material is created.

Most of the standard Units of Measure (like KL, MT, M3, Liter, etc) are available in standard system. You can change the properties of a Unit of Measure with T-Code - CUNI or IMG - SAP NetWeaver - General Settings - Check Units of Measurement - Units of Measure.

Hope this helps...

Dear jignesh

"The system converts all the quantities you enter in other units of measure (alternative units of measure) to the base unit of measure." Can you explain it little more .

Dear Friend,

For example:

Material "A" - Base Unit of Measure - KL (Kilo Litre) / Alternate Unit of Measure - MT (metric Tonnes)

Now see this scenario:

Opening Stock - 100 KL

Goods Receipts (GRN) - 50 MT (conversion factor - 1 MT = 1.5 KL)

Thus the closing stock system would display (T-Code MMBE or MB5B): 175 KL

*(100 KL Opening stock + 75 KL which is 50 MT * 1.5)*

The statement - "The system converts all the quantities you enter in other units of measure (alternative units of measure) to the base unit of measure." means that while considering stock momements (addition & issues from stock) the system does all the additions & subtractions from the stock in the Base Unit of Measure.

Now in the above example,

If you issue 10 MT then the closing stock would be

160 KL (175 KL - 10 MT * 1.5)

Hope this clears all your doubt...
