Query - Installing SAP on existing database

Former Member

We have a requirement to install Solution Manager 7.0 on a host where PI 7.1 is already installed.

What would be a good approach to install? (MCOD, multiple ora homes etc..)

Notes:

1. Both are going to be used as test systems.

2. We would like to have the facility of using the systems independent of each other ie. only one system will be "ON" at a time

3. As per installation pre-requisites, the OS (Windows) and DB (Oracle) versions are compatible with both systems.

I woudl go with multiple ora homes.

MCOD is putting both of your eggs in the same basket and can be a pain to administer. If you ever plan on splitting those 2 instances and you have chosen MCOD, it will be a pain.

2 ORACLE_HOME is the best way to go.

Thanks Eric and Ardhian,

I did some R&D on my own too and realised that multiple ora homes would be a good way to go..

Your responses have confirmed my conclusions.

Thank you.

hi prasad,

Installing SAP system on MCOD will save some space since you won't need multiple Ora home. You also only need to do one task when installing some database patches.

But most SAP expert would prefer to do multiple Ora home since it's easy to maintain and not so painful for most SAP Basis. So I suggest you to have multiple ora home.
