Hi Raja,

As of Release 4.5A, you can use the following new functions in sample management:

Manual inspection lot for physical sample

You can create manual inspection lots for physical samples to:

- Carry out stability tests for physical samples

- Inspect physical samples received from competitors

- Inspect physical samples associated with customer complaints

You have two options for creating manual inspection lots for physical samples:

- Use the transaction to change the physical-sample record to create an inspection lot

- Use a new transaction to create a list of physical samples; from this list, you can create manual inspection lots for one or more physical samples

Manual inspection lots for physical samples have the inspection lot origin 15. You cannot use these inspection lots to manage stock.

To be able create an inspection lot for a physical sample, the following conditions must be met:

* Inspection type 15 must be active for the the physical sample material in the material master.

  • You must be able to convert the physical sample size to the base unit of measure.

  • Any previously existing inspection lot for the physical sample must be completed.

  • The physical sample must have the proper status (released, still in existence, no deletion flag set).

If the system cannot create an inspection lot completely (for example, because a valid inspection plan could not be found or because several valid inspection plans were found), you can use transaction QA02 (change inspection lot) to process the inspection lot (for example, to assign an inspection plan manually).

You cannot use transaction QA01 (create inspection lot) to create manual inspection lots for physical samples.

A 15-type sample management inspection lot can be raised for a physical sample via t-code QPR5 (or within QPR2) and is not stock posting relevant.

However if you want to inspect a pre-shipment sample, I recommend you use source inspection. This is activated for a material/vendor combination in the QIR and allows an inspection lot be created for a purchasing document item prior to GR (and the UD of the source inspection lot can be used to determine whether/how GR is allowed to proceed).

Use QPR5 to create inspection lots.

You can also use the standard QA01 transaction.

You need number ranges configured if you didn't copy the standard SAP stuff to your client. Use T code QA09 (and probably a few other things too).

Regards,

Shyamal
