Hi Yash,
Taxonomy table is a lookup table of the hierarchy type.
What is additional in this is that besides storing just the hierarchy values it can also hold attributes.
Attributes are a specific characteristic that are linked to some records and not all.
Fields on the other hand are common to all records. Attributes are one step more detail in describing a record.
So data that are in an hierarchy form and have specific characteristic to identify records more precisely are stored in a taxonomy table.
Kindly Follow the below links it will guide you in the above topic:
Hope It Helped

Hi Yash,
the differences B/W field and attribute are as follows:
1)field is common for all records as attributes are for some particular records
2)atributes can be of 3 types only:text, numeric and coupled numeric
3)fields are created in console but attributes are in data manager.
there are many more differences besides these.

Hi
IN Taxonomy table
Attribute represent characterstics pertaining to one or multiple records. For eg:Size 1.1/2 inch may apply to screws or products of that size only.Attributes are of data type text, numeric and coupled
But fields apply to all the records.Eg:Size,Each Product will have sum size.Fields have various data type Be it Auto ID to Look up.

Hi Yash,
Taxonomy mode is used to manage the product classification structure defined by the category records and the associated attributes of a taxonomy table. When you view a taxonomy table in Taxonomy mode, MDM uses a tree to display the category records of the table as a hierarchy of categories and subcategories, and a grid to list the entire pool of attributes that are associated with the taxonomy table.
In Taxonomy mode, you can create and manage the category hierarchy, create and manage the pool of attributes, and assign attributes to categories on a category-by-category basis.
Attributes is an inherent characteristic.
Hope this may help you,
Regards,
Srinivas

Hi,
in simple terms, characteristics are called attributes.
