Informatica for data cleansing and transformation

Does anyone come across a scenario where non SAP software like Informatica is used for data cleansing and transformation during MDM implementation? Can anyone provide me with a brief overview of pros and cons with respect to using Informatica for above mentioned purpose?

Hi cognition,

MDM is a master data tool developed by SAP to manage master data effectively by cleansing the master data and inforcing proper governance on it so that good quality master data can be stored and created within MDM for all future uses.

We can also use other cleansing and enrichment tools along with MDM to achieve this purpose. But this will be decided by the objective that needs to be achived.

for eg: you can use other tools like Address enrichment tools along with mdm so that the address enrichment can be done effectively using thata tool and MDM can be used to tracking the duplicataes if any.

Similarly we can also use other data quality tools along with MDM so then MDM can then be used as a data storage hub and the quality aspect will be done through the quality tool.

So based on what needs to be achieved you can use MDM efficiently.

You can refer the below link to know more on this:

Hi,

There are few MDM customers which have implemented the MDM Enrichment Framework to enable data cleansing.

These customers are using non-SAP tools for address cleansing, and other data enrichment activities.

To enable such integration, the third-party software should include MDM Enrichment Adapter. There are few third-party Enrichment Adapters offered by SAP partners.

As far as I know, such adapter does not yet exist for Informatica software.

See more details at [MDM Documentation Center|http://service.sap.com/installMDM] -> Enrichment Architecture.

For information on how to integrate with the ETL capabilities of BusinessObjects Data Services, see this [How-to Paper|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b097f3ba-5565-2b10-74af-b51838bb0515].
