Authorization field given in Customer Master - Control data....
The authorization group allows extended authorization protection for particular objects. The authorization groups are freely definable. What do you mean by this. Can anybody highlight on this statement ?
Field groups are used to group together fields in the customer master which are handled identically with regard to authorization assignment. If a user has the authorization for one or more field groups, he/she can change all fields of this/these authorization group(s).
When dividing the fields into field groups, please note that the change authorization either applies to all or no fields of a group. On the other hand, no check is carried out when creating and displaying.
Authorizations for field groups are maintained using the object F_KNA1_AEN (Financial Accounting).
Example
A user has the general authorization for maintaining customer master records in SD. Using the field group, this authorization can be controlled more precisely. It may define that a user may only change certain fields - namely, the fields of the field group.
Once you have defined your field groups and have assigned the fields to these groups, you have to use the above authorization object to include the field groups. Aditionally, the BASIS guys would do the following afterwards
define authorizations for the authorization objects.
group authorization objects together in profiles.
create user master records.
specify the respective profiles.
Hope this helps.

Is this still valid for the CRM 7.0 version? controlling the specific fields that can be maintained by the user?

Hi,
Authorization allows a user to perform specific transactions; Authorizations are assigned to user log-on IDs.
This field is used to limit access to specific customers using extended SAP security.
thanks

Dear sanjay,
The only users who are assigned to that authorization group can change the field in customer master.
