I have noticed that SAP makes reference to a Primary Application Server Instance (DB instance is clear
and so in the Central Services instances and dialogue instance...However what is not clear is what is the Primary App Server Instance?

Primary Application Server Instance is you old CI and Additional Application Server instance is your old DI.
So now you have if you are doing a HA install
1) ASCS ( Depending on single or dual stack)
2) SCS ( Depending on single or dual stack)
3) Database Instance
4) Enqueue Replication server instance ( As part of 7.1)
5) Primary Application server instance
6) Additional Application server instance
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Naveed

I thought the Central Services Instance was different from PAS? Do you have any SAP documents that explains this?
Thanks
