WBS vs Network

when to use WBS and when to use networks and when to use both. please help ! i am confused with the concept.

create WBS when u want to plan and budget for ur project and want to monitor the project by cost and revenue.

but only network, u may use during assembly processing without any wbs as u r going to capture the cost and schedule which is possible in network only.

Dear All,

Y should u menctioned Net Work only have Schedule, even wbs also having the dates planning,

WBS & Net Work have the same option. Net Work is more flexibility tool compare to WBS. both or equal.

WBS is usually used for financial implementation and/ or in capital projects. Usually if you have subcontractors doing work then they do all the detailing you just manage at WBS level

When you need scheuling and detailing of each activity to be done then go or networks

other reasons could be if you wish to generate preq from PS, or use workforce planning then network has to be used

The classifcation of a project work into WBS, networks and activities depends on many aspects.

1. use the work as WBS, if its a billable, if u want to go for budget control

2. Can use as an activity, if it the smallest unit of work to be done and which incure cost, have duration, need resources to be done.......All activities put together to form a network. There is no where where u will be defining a network as u r defining a WBS, a network will be formed automatically. BUT, u can use it as a single network or form network for each WBS element.
