hi guruz,
In alert configraution ,when we design the alert category for any scenerio.
my question is that ,can we design the alert category without alert rule,or defining alert rule is compulsory for any alert category.?

It is not compulsory. You don't need it for Alerts thrown by BPM

Hi Pawan,
Alert rule is the media to access the defined Alert Category. Check very first line of this link of sap help

Hi
Alert rule are associated with Alert Category
So, when an error occurs in XI, .it searches for Alert Rules which are assoociated with the error.

Alert category in general provides just custom classification. Using the rules you actually define which type of errors should invoke the alert. So a rule uses alert categories for specific situations. It is required.
