Dear Devesh,

Depot

A unit, in India, that is dedicated to the storage and sale of goods, as opposed to a manufacturing plant.

Depots:Do not participate in the CENVAT scheme

Depots:Are required to keep a register of all goods receipts and goods issues (register RG 23D)

Warehouse

An organizational division of a plant for managing materials stored in different places.

I hope this will help you,

Regards,

Murali.

Difference Between Depot and Warehouse

Depot: In india we consider depot as a Carring & Forwarding Agent (C&F), which perform sales activity on behalf of company in specified area. They will get commission and operational expenses on sales amount.

Warehouse: Warehouse is a premise of a company itself outside manufacturing location which stores excise paid finish product.

There is not need to maintain any register for both.

Hope this will help you

Regards

Happy Surana
