Dear Guru's,
What is importance of u201CProject Typeu201D in WBS element, for what purpose we are using this u201CProject typeu201D, if are not using this what is the impact on project.
Regards,
Prathap
Project type is used primarily for the reporting purpose. Say if you are large no of reports and you want a report of the perticular type of project at that time it will be helpful to you.
If you are not using nothing direct inmpact on your porject. However by not using we are loosing one standard option of reporting.
If you take up any standard report of PS > you will find there dynamic selection button ( SHIFT+ F4)> click on WBs master data --> give your project type there -->project / WBS give blind finder * --> Execute report.
This is the best use of the project type,
I hope it will clear to you now.

Project type is used to group or classify projects as required e.g.
investment projects
capital projects
development projects
As already mentioned by Nitin it is primarily used for reporting, building alternative summarisation hierarchies and authorisation.
It can also be used for developing customer requirements e.g. use of BADI for WBS settlement rule determination based on project type as a parameter
If thuis is not used then there is no impact on PS in any way, however I have yet to carry out a PS implementation where this field was not used

Project type can be used for restrict authorisation and for summarisation reports (alternative hierarchy) alongwith dynamic selection in std PS reports.
