Confusion regarding message interface direction

I am new to XI and have lot of confusion regarding the direction we select in message interface.

For eg. the file is on SQL server and IDOCs to be created in R/3 system.

I created data type and message type of sender i.e. SQL server and trying to create the message interface.

What should be the direction inbound or outbound?

I understand that with respect to SQL server it is outbound and with respect to XI it is inbound.

Is the direction should be given with respect to the application i.e. SQL server or with respect to XI.

Experts please answer..

Hi Rajesh

As a new bee always preferred to go for tutorials and blogs given by experts that helps in learning a lot.

Moreover

I take your case as JDBC <-> XI <- > ECC

Here you have to create SQL server related message interface as Outbound and IDOC related itnerface as Inbound.

Thumb rule - Sender is always Outbound and receiver is always Inbound

XI is a middle ware.

Sender system is doing an Outbound to send data so XI also take this as Outbound. and for Receiver system its an inbound and so its Inbound for XI as well
