SLD 7.0 and SLD 7.1 Mixing and Matching

Hello all,

There is a system with Solution Manager using a local SLD (7.0).

The idea was to install EP (and any other components that need EP and EP Core) with SLD 7.0. This was supposed to be the "central" SLD

To use the PI 7.1 this requires that SLD 7.1 be installed/used.

But again, another system was set to be the "central" SLD in which:

SLD (7.1) -

> SLD (7.0)

Question: Can a SLD 7.1 update/send data to a SLD 7.0 (the central SLD for the landscape)?

Would they mix OK? If not, what would the options be?

TIA

Looked up the presenation "LCM111 System Landscape Directory of SAP NetWeaver: Concepts and Recommendations"

This is what it states,

All SLD data gets synchronized automatically

Fully automated:

No user interaction

Automatic conflict resolution

Uni-and bi-directional

Asynchronous propagation (able tohandle temporary downtimes of nodes)

Communication over HTTP protocol

Source SLD can also run on SAP NetWeaver 7.0(SP Stack 12 or higher)

What this implies is,

1. 7.0 SLD can be automatically synchronize and push updates to 7.1 SLD.

2. In your case, I guess you should be able to push auto updates from the 7.0 SLD to 7.1 SLD.

3. In the case of 7.1 to 7.0 SLD, as 7.0 SLD does not support auto synchronization, I think the update would have to be manual.

OK then, the Soln. Mgr. box is now running a local 7.0 SLD.

Since the Soln. Mgr. SLD has to be updated by all SLDs in the landscape, is it possible to upgrade the 7.0 local Soln.Mgr so that it sits ona 7.1 SLD and not a 7.0 SLD?

Unfortunately my knowledge on Sol Manager is limited.

Maybe posting this on the Netweaver Admin forum or the appropriate forum for Sol Manager would also help.

PI 7.1 is back compatible with PI 7.0 SLD's and you can run a PI 7.1 of a PI 7.0 SLD. So, your above statement is actually wrong.

SAP actually had a presenation at the Teched on this how to structure your SLD between 7.0 and 7.1 systems and the curx of the session was :

7.1 SLD provides auto synchronization between SLD's and hence is something that all Organizations should look towards heading to,

But, in a landscape where there continue to exist 7.0 System's install 7.1 on the 7.0 SLD and once all upgradations are done, the SLD can also be upgraded.

Will try to see if this document is on SDN, but it definitely was a excellent session from the Teched which stood out,
