Media required for CU&UC from 4.6C ASCII to ECC 6.0 Unicode

Hi Folks

We are planning to perform a test combined upgrade and unicode conversion from SAP R/3 4.6C ASCII to ECC 6.0, and are reviewing the following guides:

- Unicode Conversion SAP Basis 4.6C u2192 SAP NetWeaver 7.0 ABAP SP 15 and higher

- SAP ECC 6.0 ABAP SR3 - i5OS Upgrade Guide

In terms of the media required the documents are rather vague, so can anyone confirm the media that are needed to perform this upgrade and unicode conversion?

51033520_23 ERP 6.0 SR3 UC - upgrade master OS/400

51033501_1 to 12 SAP ERP 6.0 SR3 upgrade export 1-12

51033496_1 ERP 6.0 SR3 languages DE, EN

51033512_23 NW 7.0 SR3 UC - upgrade master OS/400

Regards

Kevin.

Hi Markus and Volker

Thank you both your the prompt and informative responses.

We do only have a single codepage latin-1 system (codepage 1100)

So to be clear for the SAP R/3 4.6C ASCII to ECC 6.0 ASCII, we will use the following guide and CDs:

- SAP ECC 6.0 ABAP SR3 - i5OS Upgrade Guide

51033520_10 ERP 6.0 SR3 - upgrade master OS/400

51033501_1 to 12 SAP ERP 6.0 SR3 upgrade export 1-12

51033496_1 ERP 6.0 SR3 languages DE, EN

51033512_10 NW 7.0 SR3 - upgrade master OS/400

For the ASCII to Unicode codepage conversion, we will use the following guide and CDs:

- Single Code Page Conversion Guide NW 7.0 SP 14 and higher

51033520_23 ERP 6.0 SR3 UC - upgrade master OS/400

51033512_23 NW 7.0 SR3 UC - upgrade master OS/400

Happy Holidays to you both!

Regards

Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

I didn't check the upgrade CDs in details - they sound ok, except, that the kernel is missing.

For the unicode CPC I would recommend as mentioned the iSeries InPlace CPC instead of the standard approach ... as your transparent tables are in unicode already, only reposrc & pool & cluster tables (and a few more) need to be converted with that approach ...

Hi Volker

We are using the kernel from downloaded CD 51033506_4 - NW 7.0 SR3 Kernel 7.00 OS/400 Upgrade ABAP.

Also, we will take your suggestion and use the iSeries InPlace CPC (as it does appear much simpler), using document - ASCII to Unicode Inplace Conversion V1.0 for iSeries 6.2 or higher, and Code Page Conversion CD 51030989. I located these with SAP Note 800791 - iSeries Code Page Conversion ASCII to Unicode.

Thanks again your continued help in this forum!

Regards

Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

Markus is fully correct, that you start with the Non-Unicode tools and would answer in this question during the upgrade "YES" instead of the default "NO". Then the upgrade runs more or less "normal" except, that you start SPUM4 instead of SPUMG and this after the prepare already.

I do expect, that you are using a latin-1 system only - if yes, I would strongly suggest, to do a "normal" upgrade without unicode and start unicode right after the upgrade. As there are optimized tools available (even when not with an official CD number) for the InPlace non-latin-1 CPCs, this is in my eyes a lot easier than using the combined approach.

For all people out of "the IT door", it will look like "combined upgrade & unicode".

For the case of an MDMP system on your site, it would be helpful to use your approach ...

You need the NON-UNICODE upgrade master and kernel for the upgrade. Preparation will be done in 4.6c. Upgrade to Non-Unicode ERP 6.0 and then convert to Unicode (using the UC CDs.)
