SAP Dialog Instance

Former Member

Dear All,

We have SAP 4.7 EE on MSSQL Server, Win2003.

We tried to install a Dialog Instance in our landscape on a seperate system.

We get the following error message after giving the DB Parameters Such as SID (PRD) and Hostname (sapclust).

MDB-05038 Error when connecting to "sapclust"; Reported error: "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect())."

Do we need to install Central Instance or DB Client on the new Dialog Server before running the Dialog Instance installation.

The sapmnt share has been configured and mounted on the new Dialog server.

Kindly advice as what needs to be done,

Best Reagards.

Hi Sumanth,

You need to install DB client software first and then install Dialog Instance through SAPInst.

No need to set any parameters in this system.

When Installing Central Instance....it asks u to enter the database SID,its hostname, etc and u give the details where ur actual DB is existing.

hi sumanth,

you need to install DB client first before installing Dialog Instance. Since you are using same OS for this Dialog Instance, you don't need to install Central Instance.

Thanks for the kind response.

I have installed the MS SQL client in the new Dialog Server.

Befor installing the Dialog Instance, do i need to configure any parameters in MS SQL Client.

If not, then how would the clinet recognize the server.

Kindly advice on this.

Hi Sumanth,

Just by installing the client software it might give the same problem. If yes then please install the whole SQL server and then install the dialog instance ...

It is not required that you make any spl connection ...

After the installation of dialog instance you can uninstall the sql server keeping only the client libraries...

=> No, you don't.

If not, then how would the clinet recognize the server.

=> you have to provide SAPInst with the location of the CI
