IS-Retail: Characteristics Profile

Former Member

What is the purpose of Characteristics Profile?

Would you please also give me a simple scenario where a characteristics profile is being used.

I understand that it can be assigned to a merchandise category(s), and, in turn, characteristics can be assigned to it. However, I still cannot think of a scenario where it is being used.

Any comment would be appreciated.

Hi VT,

the idea behind such a profile is very simple.

e.g you have a merchandise category LEWIS to handle your jeans in your business.

To be able to create generic articles, you have to assigne variant creating characteristics. But if you assign them directly to the MC LEWIS you run into a problem.

e.g. you have a women jeans, a handbag and a belt.

-> you need characteristics like width , lenght, or beltlenght.

But a combination makes absolutly no sense

-> Solution: charcteristic profiles

Assign NO characteristics to the MC Lewis

Create a profile and call it "women sizes" and attach a "color" characteristic and a "women size" characteristic.

Create a profile "belt" and assign a characteristic "beltlenght"

Now attach the 2 profiles to the MC lewis.

-

If you create a fresh article for the MC LEWIS a popup appears and you can choose

- nothing -> to create the handbag or other assesoires

- "women sizes" for the women jeans

- "belt" for the leather belt

benefit, the women size profile can be reused for other MCs like Wrangler or Hugo Boss

-

-

1. Create senseful characteristics and ensure reusablility. be careful that you use the right tool to assign values. be careful to distinct between fixed and limited number of possible values and a chnage of value every season. -> use the new characteristc maintenance for retail

2. Create nice profiles and create good characteristic combinations

This will be supported by the new characetristic maintanance

3. Assign profiles to the MCs

4. be happy !

regards

Björn
