To move an Oracle DB from Aix to Linux..

Dears,

I should do a system copy from Aix to Linux (both of them 64 bit) of an Sap system with Oracle 920.

I'm already prepared to do it with the R3load method , as this is an heterogeneous system copy, nevethless I would ike to know if someone experimented some other method (ie backup/restore) form Aix to Linux, or if this approach does not have any practical possibility of success.

If you upgrade to 10.2 (which I would suggest since 9.2 is out of support already) then you could use the transportable tablespace feature to convert the endianess.

However, with R3load you´d get a reorganization "for free".

thnks for the feedbacks.

I will use the r3load export/import for this case.

But I'm curious to know how the feature "transportable tablespace" might be used in some other scenarios.

Pratically what does it means and how it can be used ?

Check

Note 1035051 - Transportable tablespaces

which describes the procedure. Also have a look at

Metalink 433918.1 "What Is The Best Practice If You Want To Migrate Oracle Database To 10g Release To A Different Operating System?"

For the R3load export/import you can check what I´ve written in the "Migration" forum:

You might want to check SAP note 552464.

If endianness is different, there isn't any practical possibility of success.

AIX always is Big Endian, whereas for Linux it depends.
