UME - LDAP Configuration (Visual Administrator vs Configuration Tool)

Former Member

In the WAS there are configuration settings for the LDAP/UME configuration in both the Visual Administrator and the Configuration Tool. If I update the configuration within the Visual Administrator tool and restart the WAS, the configuration there gets updates, but the configuration in the Configuration tool does not.

Why is the LDAP configuration specified in 2 areas, why are they not linked and what is each one used for (or which one is used - is the other redundant)?

Thanks.

Paul

Hi Paul,

We are using Visual Administrator for online Administration of SAP J2EE WAS.

Config tool is for offline Administration of J2EE WAS.

thats why kept configurations in both Visual Admin and Config tool.

we can use Visual Admin , Shell Administrator(can be accesses via Telnet) , and Config Tool(offline).

Hi Kishor,

Thank you for the information.

What I am confused about is that when I changed the UME, LDAP configuration within the Visual Administrator and restarted the server, the Visual Administrator showed the new configuration but the Config Tool still shows the old configuration.

This suggests that either the Config tool is displaying old (and now incorrect) information, or the config tool configuration for the LDAP service is held seperately to the Visual Administration configuration. If there are 2 seperately held configurations I would like to know which one the WAS is reading and therefore which one I need to maintain. On the WAS I have a WebDynpro service.

Thanks.

Paul
