Warehouse management - Across plants from different company code

Former Member

Dear experts,

Need advice on whether it is feasible to assign 1 warehouse number to plants from different company code.

Currently, we have already setup 2 plants within the same company code to share the same warehouse.

Now there is a new requirement to setup a new plant code (different company code) but the products will also be stored in the same warehouse, utilizing the existing bin locations.

I have several questions :

1. Is it possible to assign same warehouse number across plants from different company code?

2. If yes, can existing storage bins which have been setup be used by the new plant code? Are there any complications or financial implications?

3. If no, when a new warehouse number is created, how do we design to share the same physical storage warehouse?

Appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

Bee

- The restriction is only to assign one warehouse per combination of plant/storage location. So yes, you should be able to do that.

2. If yes, can existing storage bins which have been setup be used by the new plant code? Are there any complications or financial implications?

- The structure exists within the warehouse so if you have assigned the warehouse to your plant/storage location, then the setup is already there.

Dear Juergen,

Good to know that you do currently have the similar scenario.

Would appreciate if you could elaborate on the restrictions which you mention regarding goods receipt/inbound delivery and goods issue/outbound delivery to one company code.

The stock/inventory for the plant must be captured under the company code assigned to the plant respectively.

When you mention to split the process, do you mean to have separate orders when the goods are issued from these plants ie. cannot have multiple line item with these different plants(different company code) in the same order?

Appreciate your input. Thanks.

Dear Bee,

restrictions regarding goods receipt/inbound delivery

I am not sure (anymore) at this point.

goods issue/ outbound delivery

When you mention to split the process, do you mean to have separate orders when the goods are issued from these plants ie. cannot have multiple line item with these different plants(different company code) in the same order?

Yes - I think you have to use separate orders.

Outbound deliveries are restricted to one sales-organisation per outbound delivery (LIKP-VKORG).

And sales-organisation is restricted to company code.

Different line items with different plants/company codes do not fit to the Sales-Order-Process.

(Who does the billing?).

The stock/inventory for the plant must be captured under the company code assigned to the plant respectively.

This is no problem.

Hi Bee,

1. Is it possible to assign same warehouse number across plants from different company code?

Yes - it is possible. We run a so configured warehouse number with several plants and company codes.

2. If yes, can existing storage bins which have been setup be used by the new plant code? Are there any complications or financial implications?

Storage bins are not restricted to any plant.

There are restrictions regarding goods receipt / inbound delivery and goods issue / Outbound delivery:

You will be restricted to one company code.

So you have to split these process (but this should be normal).

Processes in warehouse itself (Transport order) have no limitations.
