How to Mass create bins by WM ?

Former Member

Hi experts,

We need mass create bins by ls10. in LS10, it has some fields , - Sequence number, template, structure and increment.

I don;'t know how to setup this , Now we have some old bins, like storage type is 1CF bins like AB1-01-01. but now we need setup new bins from DE01-01-01A to DE01-01-30A., So if we set sequence number as 0002, When we do material movement, it will choose the new bins ?

How to set the Sequence number, template, structure and increment. ?

Thanks

Alice

Hi

Have you considered using an LSMW to mass create bins.

It is a recording of LS01N and can be easier than LS10 if your bins are not sequentiol.

Also please remember that storage bins are not transportable

The structure will be transported but you will have to go in and create the bins in every client

DEV - QA - Production etc

I hope that this helps.

We have the same issue current but LS10 will not work in production because the client is not open and we can not open the production client. Also we create the template but it appears the bins structure does not come over in the transport. We have 3500 Bins to create and Mass creation in Dev is required or another way to do it in the SAP QA and Production client.

THanks

Hi

Really apreciated for your help. Thanks. May I just query since we have 50 bins range ,

if we have to craete 50 sequence ?

Or if it could change the bin range after new bins have been created, then re-create it ?

Hope to get your advice

Thanks

Hi,

From my point of view, yes, you can extend the range of your storage bin step by step, but you must have a clear bin structure in advance.

For your questions:

  • If you have 50 ranges for different storage bin structure, you have to create them with separate sequence number, because the sequence number is used to record the operation every time for the bin creation in the system;

  • You can't re-create the same bin structure except for extending storage bin number! For example:

You already had the bin numbers from DE01-01-01 to DE01-01-30 in the system, and there are the stock on the bin as well, so you cann't definitely re-create the existing bin number again, because of the existing stock! But you can extend the bin numbers accordingly, that's mean, you can generate the new bin numbers from DE01-01-31 to DE01-01-60, or from DE01-02-01 to DE01-02-30, or from DE02-01-01 to DE02-01-30 and so on. It's up to your definition of storage bin structure.

Hope you can get your correct storage bin structure!

Hi,

In ECC 6.0 the bin structure allows is 10 characters only. any way follow the strucuture as follows.

sequence no: 002

Template:CCCCCCCCNNc

Structure: AA

Start and End values you know

Increment : 1

About the selection of bin, you are adding some more bins to the existing storage type.

So, when you do putway system searches for the emptybin only. if you use next empty bin strategy.

It wont look whether it is old bin or new bin as per the strategies you have difned in the IMG.

I hope ur doubt is clear now.

Hi,

Mass bins are created by LS10 transaction as mentioned by you. System select bins depends on the search strategy.System search bins depends on the putaway strategy. If it is "next empty bin " then it will select always next empty bin. Please check your putaway strategy.

For creating bins for the range DE01-01-01A to DE01-01-30A ,make a new entries with warehouse number ,storage type, sequence number, template, structure, start value, end value & increment.

Are you creating sequence number 2 for the same storage type? If yes then you can use same template for bin creation. For knowing the terminology of Sequence number, template, structure and increment, please refer WM guide for the same.

Hi

Thanks a lot, You mentioned " In addition, for the new bins chosen automatically, you should have the search stragety for the new bins in WM module, otherwise system only chooses the next empty bin automatically.".

Now we have old bins, like CA-01-01.1 We setup new bins DA01-01-01A, We plan to use new bins , and delete old bins. So do we only need change bin number in material master to new bins ?

then sap will move material and use new bin?

Thanks

Hi,

I want to clarify that you use the fixed bin in the material master data or not? If yes, you have to change the bin number in the material master data; otherwise, you delete the old bins, it will be fine.

For old bins deleting, you had better transfer the stock from old bins to new bins via t-code LT01 or LT10 and make the old bins empty, then you can delete them correctly. After that system will always use the new bin numbers to store the material stock.

Good luck

Hi,

  • Sequence number: you had better enter a consecutive number;

  • Template: it's used for bin coordinate for automatic creation, specifies how the storage bins are defined for automatic generation.

N stands for a numeric character between zero and nine

A stands for an alphabetic letter; this may only be one digit

C stands for a character common to all the bins

Pay attention to the max length of template is 10 chars.

Base on your mention, I think your template should be CCNNCNNCNN;

  • Structure: it's used to specify how the increment for automatic generation of storage bins is to be interpreted. Different letters mean that the digits are increased by the increment independently of one another. Same letters mean that the increment is a multi-digit one.

  • Increment: your increment should be DE01-01-01, it's used to determines during automatic generation of storage bins how large the addition is that is to be added on to the storage bin coordinate figures in order to create the "name" of the next storage bin.

  • Don't forget to input the Start value DE01-01-01 and End value DE01-01-30

In addition, for the new bins chosen automatically, you should have the search stragety for the new bins in WM module, otherwise system only chooses the next empty bin automatically.

Good day
