Upload of text files and generation of rules

Hi Experts,

1. We would like to have both Global Rule set and as well as our own SoD conflicts with a separate Rule Set ID. In that scenario, can we upload the Global Rule set with the text files [provided by SAP along with the installation software] DIRECTLY WITHOUT INVOLVING LOGICAL SYSTEMS.

Then what system we have to give in the Function & Function_BP.txt files uploading if we want to upload against the connector

2. Also we would like to know whether we need to upload all the text files that came as part of the installation software like peoplesoft/oracle txt files or only ALL_* txt files + CRM + Basis. txt files are enough to generate the Global Rule Set.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Ambarish

Hi Ambarish,

1. Whether or not to involve logical systems will depend on your overall landscape. When you upload the rules, they must be assigned at the function level to a specific system so you will need to determine which system to load them against. A few things to consider before uploading two rule sets:

- Naming convention of the Global risk/function IDs vs custom rule set risk/function IDs - whether they will be shared or whether they will be completely different attributes within the overall system.

- Risks are rule set specific

- Functions (actions/permissions) are system specific

2. You do not have to upload all of the rules provided in the delivered rule set. Only load those applicable to your environment.

Minor correction: of course you can upload function_action / function_permission files to a logical system instead of a connector.

In most cases you should - it means that if you change an object value or add a custom action to a function, your change is valid for all systems assigned to the logical system. In most cases, this is what you want. If you have a value that is valid only for one system, you can still upload to a logical system and make only the change valid for the connector - connector rules have precedence over logical system rules.

Using logical systems makes rule maintenance A LOT easier. You can also load your own rules to the logical system, for the same reason.

Frank.
