Hi Experts,
I have a quick query,
can any one explain me how exactly we need to configure PROCESSES parameter in Oracle. In my development server i have changed the value from 800 to 7000, i could see many performance issues. CPU is always 100% full.
Oracle 10G and AIX 5.3
Thanks in advance
Venkat
count the number of work processes (dialog, background, spool, ENQ etc..) from SM50 for each instance (that means central instance, application servers) and also add processes for java stack if it is installed and follow note 830576 to get the formula.
your resulting value should be closer to 700 than 7000 if you have multiple APPS.

My goodness... 7000...
Read 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g
it contains a formula how to calculate that parameter.

Hi,
Do you have 7000 users connecting at the same time at BW?
or
Do you have a total of 7000 users connecting at different times?
Finally, the number of users at SAP level has not much to do with the number of "users" at Oracle level.
The processes will depend on the number of ABAP dialog processes and j2ee server processes
