Error in installation Ecc

Hi friends,

Under ECC 6.0/HPUX While installing , the installation stopped at this point, does anyone have any idea

- are you running the installation as user "root"?

- is there a /home directory on your server?

YEs i am running with the root access, they have created root access to a user e.g rpdld.

The directory /home exists on that server.

That won't work, you need to use "root" as user, not a user that has the right permission.

The error message is pretty clear: The user you are running the installation with has no permissions to create a subdirectory.

You can't use a different user but you MUST use root (read the installation documentation).

Thanks for the advise, now i am running under the user root, it is running, but the thing is the GUI screen didn't pop up, but the installation is running. What can i do now .

If you did "su - " to switch to the root user you have to

- execute "xhost +" as the user you initially logged on

- set the DISPLAY variable of the root user to your IP and DISPLAY

Did you install Oracle before you started sapinst?

I am in the central intance installation, after this i will install the oracle and then the datbase instance.

In the previous installation of 4.7 ee, i installed centrl, then oracle and then databse instance install.

I don't know why it is coming up with this error.

You wrote in your initial post that you are installing an ERP 6.0 system. In that installation there is no difference between central and database installation.

Usually you install ERP as "one" step, you start with sapinst until it stops and requests you to install the Oracle software, you do that, install the latest Oracle patchset, install the latest interim patches and then go on with the installation.

I am doing the ERP 6.0 installation, 4.7 previous installation - i mean when i installed in the past.

So in ECC there is only one installation that is central system installation, in this central system installation you mean that databse system installation is included. what about the distributed system installation option in ECC .

So it is not like 4.7 where we do the central system then oracle, patches and interim patches and the datbase instance installation and the post installation.

So to resolve the error mesage i got, so do i have to go head in installing the oracle.

To me it seems that sapinst has found an Oracle installation, otherwise it wouldn't try to start the listener.

Is there an existing /etc/oratab or other Oracle version on that machine?

Yes, there are other systems on this server, but we have created file systems, /oracle/mrd, /sapdata1-4 ,/mirrlog , /origlog,/saparch etc.

Can i stop at this phase and start installing the oracle logging into the file system /oracle/mrd

There went something wrong during the installation the system detected an Oracle instance which is already there (but not yet really for that instance).

It won´t be enough to install Oracle, this will maybe enable sapinst to start the listener but it will come to other errors later.

Before harming the other systems I suggest you open an OSS call and let the support have a look on the system. Here in the forum it´s impossible to suggest anything without knowing exactly what sapinst detected and how you should proceed.

First installing oracle,patches and interim patches

Then install the central instance etc, or do you want me to raise a OSS note.what do u suggest.

I´m not sitting 24 hours in front of the PC

As I said before, I would open an OSS call and let the support have a look on the system. Since you don´t use a "standard setup" I can´t help you - sorry.

I am sorry for that. As said i have raised an OSS message with SAP, there suggestion was to follow the OSS note 830578. I have done as per note but still same problem, waiting a reply from sap.

The system tries to delete the installed Oracle client which is in use since the second system is running...

Stop the first system and try again.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to stop the SAP system and retry it but didn't work.

I have also retried to mv the file /oracle/client/10x_64/instantclient_10201/liboc /oracle/client/10x_64/instantclient_10201/liboc.1 and retried it but from last two hrs it shows in the phase unpacking archives /oracle/client/10x_64 and doesn't do anything.

So again i have tried to mv same as before and retried it still in the same phase.

fuser /oracle/client/10x_64/instantclient/libociei.so

the output are the process IDs using that library actually.

When i have run as you said i got the below

oracle/client/10x_64/instantclient/libociei.so: 19633m 21276m 6734m 29753m

Those are the process numbers using the library.

Check them with

ps -p <processnumber>

and see what it is. The terminate/kill them if they are not used.

I have deleted the PID, and retried but nothing woked. Once again as a last try i just want to restart again.

I am deleting the files that are created and starting a fresh

Deleting from /sapmnt/<SID>

deleting from sapinst

deleting /tmp that are creating for execution of files

Apart from this do i need to consider any other files to delete

Still the same error as before... use the fuser command again...

I have deleted the file and retried it then the installation continued.

As on this host there are other systems for e.g

host> under /oracle

hrd>ls

grd mrd drd admin client

My question is do i need to move back the file libocei. so to the original location.

does other systems use this file?.

Now it came to installation of oracle

in the host :ora<SID> I have set the DISPLAY=Ip address

But it says command not found?

Any suggestions to set the Display under ora<sid>

We use sh for e.g /usr/bin/sh

i have set as host:oramd>DISPLAY=10.34.23.0:0.0

command not found.

are you sure you use that shell? What´s the output of (as ora)

by default the installation is done use csh...

The syntax of the csh is different - you have to set environment variables as

setenv DISPLAY x.x.x.x:X.X

i get permission denied.

I have checked the groups and the permission and set them. but still the same error.

Thanks, i have completed the oracle installation. Now i am installing the oracle patch that is 10.2.0.2.

The oracle patch set CD (zip folder)is in the installation DVD folders.

Can you please help with the process of uninstalling the zip , i mean in which oracle folder do i need to unizip and then run the installation of the patch set.

When i do unizip it says unzip not found.

"unzip" is not part of a usual HP-UX installation, you can download it here:

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Misc/unzip-5.52/

I would unzip in a directory in the staging area:

cd /oracle/stage
mkdir 1022_patch
cd 1022_patch
unzip <zip-file>

Don't forget to apply all the patches (50+) mentioned in

Note 871096 - Oracle Database 10g: Patch sets/patches for 10.2.0

before you continue to the installation.

Just to confirm After installing this ORacle Patch 10.2.0.2.

I need to install the 50 patches which are the interim patches using the opatch tool and then i can continue the SAP installation.

Please let me know if i am missing anything.

If something "is not working" and you want help you should give more information about what is not working.

I could ask e. g. "is your machine booted" - because if it's not booted it can't work.

What did you download and what command are you executing and what is the output?

Run the unzip <filename>.zip

Command not found or bad argument or cannot execute

What is the output of

file /usr/bin/unzip

if that is not found, then the unzip utility is not there.

It seems to me you have never done an installation and now struggling with basic tasks.

I suggest you get someone on your side to help you digging through all that which is much more efficient than "what command next" - it will safe you a LOT of time and frustration.

The ".bin"-files are splitted files - you need to put them together again and install them FIRST (to get to version 10.2.0.2).
