Hi All,
Can we use MDM for Data Migration?
Our requirement is data has be transported from oracle database to SAP database with data cleansing.
Can we use MDM in this case?
If it is not what are the other possibilites?
Please let me know
Thanks
Narendra
Hi Mullapudi ,
MDM is a tool basically to handle master data effectively. So it acts as a data Hub or data storage.
Data migration is done from MDM in a differnt manner. It is called as Syndication or harmonisation.
You can extract data from Oracle system and perform cleansing and consolidation in MDM and then syndicate it to the SAP ERP system. If that is the requirement.
MDM can store millions of master records. But data will come into MDM from a source system and can be send to a target system or remain in MDM itself and be used for future creation of new master records directly in to MDM.
MDM is not an ERP system so does not have preexisting master data in store.
But MDM can take the large master records from one or multiple systems and perform many activities in it like consolidation,Deduplication,Data enrichment etc and also CMDM ir central master data creation.
So look at MDM as a data Hub more than a data migration tool.
The steps that you need to follow in your scenario could be:
- Extract data from oracle in an Excel ,Access or nay flat format.
- This format data can be very easily imported into MDM
- Then you can perform Deduplication strategy and Governance in MDM using Workflows and other features like validations etc.
- After the data is fully cleansed and complete as per standard.
- This data can be send to an SAP database system like ECC ERP system.as well as maintained in MDM also.
- And in future you can create an interface such that new master records are created in MDM itself with high quality.
Hope It Helped
Thanks & Regards
