dear friends,
i would like to add some more physical memory on my sap ides server.
right now its 4 gb and i am going to increase by 4gb more RAM.
My question is what are the steps to perform on sap side for memory management after
adding 4gb Ram in my hardware.
i am using windows2003 with SQL Server and SAP Netweaver 2004's BI 7.
any help highly appricated..
Regards
Malik
To upgrade the RAM, you don't have to do anything much on SAP. you have to just shutdown SAP, then the server and then upgrade the RAM. Once its upgraded, start the server and start SAP.
Once RAM is upgraded, make sure the virtual memory (page file size) is 4 times the RAM for 32 bit and at least 20 GB for 64 bit servers.
Read through the following if you want to know more about SAP memory management in Windows:

Dear Jazz,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I got your point but one confusion in my mind why we choose memory for
central and db instance when we install sap software.
as per my understanding its need to know how much memory you want to use
for sap software. Now if we are going to add memory in our hardware we have
to mention somewhere? is it?
please give me some information to clear my confusion.
regards,
Malik
You will need to adjust your pagefile as mentioned earlier and adapt SAP parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE from SAP. You can refer note 88416 for parameter change even through its for the older version.
For other SAP parameters, please refer to the memory management link which i provided earlier. It explans in details which all parameters are depended on the physical memory.
