hello sir

my question is about process chain,What is the process chain, its purpose .How to create the process chain. At the same time i want to know that ,How can we decide univariant forecast profile is tha best forecasting strategy?.

Hi Prasanna,

Process Chain:

We can use RSA1 in BW system.

A process chain is a sequence of processes that are scheduled to wait in the background for an event. Some of these processes trigger a separate event that can, in turn, start other processes.

Use

In an operating BI system there are a multitude of processes that occur regularly. If you use process chains,

you can:

u2022 Automate the complex schedules in BW with the help of the event-controlled processing,

u2022 Visualize the processes by using network graphics, and

u2022 Centrally control and monitor the processes.

Fundamental principals of the process chain concept are:

u2022 Openness

The abstract meaning of a process as any process with a defined beginning and end enables openness with regard to the type of process that can be integrated into a process chain. The principle of openness is applied to the theory behind process chains, in that both user-defined programs and processes can be implemented. In addition, you can include process chains in other process chains, known as meta chains. In doing so you are able to integrate process chains from the system in which the meta chain is found, or from other systems. In this context, we are talking about local or remote process chains.

u2022 Security

Using process chains offers a high amount of process security, which is based on the principals of background management:

u2212 Processes are scheduled before they run and can be monitored with the standard batch monitor.

u2212 Background events start subsequent processes.

u2212 Short dumps and terminations are recognized and handled respectively.

u2022 Flexibility

The subsequent process must get all the information it needs for a correct run from its predecessors. This allows new process types to be integrated without the existing types having to be adjusted.

Structure:

A process chain consists of a start process, individual application processes and the collection processes.

Define the start of your process chain with the start process All other chain processes a rescheduled to wait for an event.

The application processes are the actual processes. BI supports process types of the following categories:

u2022 General services

u2022 Load process and post processing processes

u2022 Data target administration processes,

u2022 Reporting Agent processes

u2022 Other BI processes,

as well as processes that you have implemented.

If they are used in other SAP applications, you have further categories available, if applicable.

Collection processes are treated differently by the process chain management. They allow multiple chain strings to be combined to form one individual string. This allows them to replace multi-field scheduling of the actual work processes.

Processes are connected using events that start a successor process after being triggered by a predecessor process.

Integration

A process chain is a BI object with a transport connection and a connection to the BI document management.

Automatism

If you use process chains, the automatism of the integrated processes (for example, update

PSA data in the data target, or activate data in the Data Store object) are ignored and you must implement them using the process chain.

If you schedule a specific process in a chain, you support the automatic insertion of additional, relevant standard processes with the consideration of such automatism.

If you use data transfer processes, the automatism from Info Packages are no longer available and you must implement them using process types.

This Process is Over come the failure Jobs in the Process Chains.

Use the T.Code for monitoring the process chains RSPC/ RSPC1.

First you can take the process chain name from the user and goto RSPC1 and executive the pc ( Make sure it is today's date)and right click on canceled step and select the REPEAT option then refresh after some time it will come to green means completed...same thing for all canceled steps, which are in red.

Note: For check the "user lock" please use the T.Code SM12.

Again it is canceled......go to sm12 and find the user and send a mail to him to come out from the planning area.

U can get the user mail id in SU01 by entering the used id, which u have in sm12.

Please refere this link very useful for you.(BW)

I hope this is useful for you.

if you any queries queries let me know.

Regards,

Pullaiah

Hi prasanna,

1) Process Chain is the tool in SAP APO to perform an activity or a group of activities (Activity includes carrying out a transaction/programme/extraction of data etc.,) in a sequential or at different logical ways in the background. For eg., If 1 --> 2 ---> 3 activity 1 needs to be done first followed by 2 followed by 3, then we can club all the three activities to form a process chain and to schedule in background. Once the process chain is over, we can able to view the process chain status, logs created, errors created etc., This process chain can be mainly used in DP and also to some extend in SNP & PPDS. Even macros also can be made to run as a process chain.

2) Univariant forecast profile basically takes into calculation of a single parameter to judge or prejudge the forecasting values. More the judging historical values, more will be the complexity in operations to be performed and the solution may or may not be feasisble in such cases. Hence, using single variant paramter is always simple and the results are reliable.

Hope this best fit with your required solution. Please confirm.

Thanks & Regards,

please check in SDN WIKI for good material on process chain. just search for process chain in the wiki search and you will get some slides. On the forecast model.. the past history is analyzed and based on the pattern you willdecide which model to be used and what strategy. Businees has to come up with some suggestions on this

Forecast method is depend up on your History Data & Business Requirement. In Demand Planning there are three method like Univariate Forecast, Composite Forecast & MLR. So you can choose your method as per business requirement & History.

Hope this will help you
