hi guys,

i am new to DP. just wanted to know whether lifecycle planning, promotional planning and seasonal planning are the different types of planning. are these types used to collect the data of the previous sales history?

i understand, one of the abopve methods are used to arrive at the values of history and based on forecasting techniques the forecasted values are obtained by univariate forecasting. and these values are then transferred to demand management.

pls guide if i am wrong

thanks

Hi Sajeev,

"lifecycle planning, promotional planning and seasonal planning"

These are planning methods applied to improve the accuracy of your forecast.

Here is how it flows:

1. The sales history is loaded into APO and a forecasting model is used to forecast the future.

2. Then apply life cycle planning ( you can set a indicator in master forecast profile so that it taken care of suing forecasting) do that the product if was growing would be forecasted as growing up but if the business user knows that it is saturated and or is going to go down may be because of a calamity or poor economy, he puts some percentages by which the forecast has to be altered so that it is more realistic

3. Apply promotion planning (this is also a indicator or you can run separately after the forecast run) like buy one get one 10% off for 2 days for a material etc.

4. Seasonal planning helps you plan as per seasons. Thanks giving in US is a huge up season for sales. Sales plunge in January. The system has to show that as up and should not use the same high forecast for other periods like January.

Also if some thing like a chapstic or cold cream has to be forecasted more in winter and less in summer..

The order of 2, 3,4 can alter depending on the business use. In one of our implementations we did not use promotion and seasonal planning at all!

we want to introduce new product in the market so for these products there is no historical values. the power users want to see the forecast for this products,so

If we want to generate the forecast for NEW product, we are getting the history data from similar products.

Hi,

Yes these all are different Planning Teqniques.

1. Seasonal Planning require minimum 2 past year data to derive forecast.

2. Lifecycle planning require 1 old product having sales history data & anothe new product for arriving forecast.

3. Promotional plannning is also used for forecasting with giving some promotions. These also required past year data for promotional planning.

Hope this will help you
