Dear all,

Item Category is determined based on sales document Typeitem Category groupusage+higher level item category = item category

the sales document type we mention at va01

item category group is we mention at material master

but where we will use usage?

please let me know the solution as soon as possible

Hi

The item category usage is not 'maintained' in any master data(maintained in Customer Material Info record ,in the bottom most part of the screen)

It is determines automatically , e.g. When u just type some text in the description in the order it automatically identifies it to be a text item with TATX as item category.. here usage text is automatically

determined.

You can see the item category usage indicators in SPRO, SD > Sales > Sales Docs > Sales doc items > Define Item cat usage

Item category usage can also maintained via the item categories (detail screen for item categories:

Goto -> Item usage).

In the standard SAP R/3 System, the following usages are def

o Batch split

o Text item

o Service item relevant for billing

o Service item not relevant for billing

through usage we can control item category determination, we know how to define usage in SPRO but in determining item category where we are giving usage

ex sales document type we are giving at va01

item category group in material master

but where we are giving or mentioning usage at transaction level

if there is no customer master info record where we can mention usage?

To define Item Usage:

SPRO --> IMG --> Sales and Distribution --> Sales --> Sales Document --> Sales Document Item --> Define Item caegory Usage

To maintain Item Usage for getting determine in Item Category:

T. Code: VD52

Key-in entries in to Fields: Customer, Sales Organization & Dist. Channel and Execute (F8).

Here, key-in your material in line-item and select the line.

Click: Magnifying lens icon (F2)

Here, under Tab: Control Data,

You will find Filed: Item Usage; with all the entries, defined in SPRO.

Hi,

The field Usage is used in item category determination , this can be used like in case of free goods

usage is free

in material determination its usage is psel + tan =taps

pshp + 0 = tax.

like wise u can use the mrp type and material.master

Dear Siri

Go to VD52, input the Customer Code, Sales Organization and Distribution Channel and execute. There select the material and click on blue lens on top. There you can see a field "Item Usage". This is used mostly for text items and packing items.
