Hi,
In a multi instance SAP landscape i.e. multiple production ECC instances (all ECC 6), multiple BI, multiple Portal etc. if a kernel upgrade is needed say on one of the ECC instances, would all other instances connected to that ECC instance (RFC, BW extractors, ALE etc.) also need an upgrade to the same kernel release?
Thank you,
Mike
No I don't think so. If its support packages then there are some dependencies.

Mike-
But you need to upgrade all the instances on any system you just cant update once app and leave rest of them(for example if you upgrade your ECC then all the instances need to be upgraded other wise system wud be inconsistent)
and its not mandatory that you have to keep all you systems on same level as these days for dual stack we need to have both ABAP and Kernel at same level if its a single stack you can have a diff kernel level for example if you have your ECC a single stack then you can apply the latest ABAP kernel which is always more than what comes with the kernel for dual stack(BI or CRM).
Thanks,
GR
