For IDoc to file scenario, I am following the wiki
https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/XI/SAPR3%28Idocs%29ToXI--Steps+Summarized
Is it necessary to go BD 64 and create a distribution model ?
though it is not mentioned as a step in wiki but in other blog it was mentioned , which is the right way to do

thanks

hi,
you need to create DM in BD64 for idocs with no automatic receiver determination (so no output conditions)
like master data idocs (materials, customers, vendors)

hi
you need to define distribution model in BD64.
this is required
1) it give the clear picture about the sender system asd reseiver system.
2) some time the same idoc need to be sent to more than two receiver ,in that case DM must need to be defined.
3) some time there is more than one segement in IDOC and the segement need to be created according to some condition. than u can define those condition here in DM . you can say here u can filter the segement here.
if u are generating idoc without any condition and it is going to only one receiver than it is not required.
