Brbackup for large database

Dear All,

In our PRD Server the DB size more 800 GB.Now we using the Brtools for backup.The tape size is 400/800 GB ultrium 3.In future the DB Size may increase .How to take the backup .Is there any way to take backup in to split up backup.

Kindly Give the solution.

you tape has a native space of 400GB.

if you use brbackup with compression ON, you should be able to compress with a compression rate of 4:1 or better. That's about 1600GB

check this command:

brbackup -h

look for comrpession in the output and go at help.sap.com to learn how to set this up.

Hello,

if your backup is to big for one tape, you may do one of the following:

  • Use more than one tape drive. You may specify them in your init<SI>.sap file.

  • Use one drive, and manually enter another tape as soon as the first is full. You probably don't want to, though...

  • Use one drive and a loader that will automatically change tapes.

So most probably you will have to pay for additional hardware.
