Dear all,

Please guide to upgrade SAP Kernel 111 to nnn.

Q. 1> What are the critaria? to select patch level? I mean to say that Can I upgrade Kernel level 111 to 146/ 176 directly while kernel level 133 is available?

Q. 2.> There are following types of SAP kernels:

I. SAP KERNEL 7.0

i. Database Independent

ii. DB2/UDB

iii. Oracle

II. SAP KERNEL 7.0 Unicode

i. Database Independent

ii. DB2/UDB

iii. Oracle

Ques>

Which Tree should I follow SAP KERNEL 7.0 or SAP KERNEL 7.0 Unicode?

Which type of kernels will be down loaded Database Independent or ANY DB Dependent (Note: SAPEXE.......sar SAPEXEDB.......sar)

Directory Scenario:

In my Solution Manager /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/uc/ntamd/*

In Developement System /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run/*

/usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/uc/hpia64/but no files are here.

Last Ques: What type kernel will be downloaded and on which location it will be copied???

Regards

Dharmendra

Hi,

Yes you can upgrade the kernal to the latest level with out updating it to next higher level.

like from 111 to 176 directly.

2. You have to select appropriate database and operating system as per your system(you have to download both database independent and database dependent)

3. take a backup of /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/uc/ntamd/*

then uncar the files which you have downloaded and paste them here.

Dear Vamshi Polasa,

You are absolutly correct but I have been confused after seeing the filesystem on my HP-UX System There is several two paths:

1.> /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run/ ---> There are all executable files available.

2.> /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/uc/hpia64/ -

> But here no files are available.

As per stated answer I should copy uncared files into 2nd path but see persently system is running without such files at this location.

It seems required files are available at usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run/

Let me know what should I do?

For UNIX only :

UNIX : /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/sys/exe/run

Try to read note ....

Hi

I suggest you may have a look at sap note [19466 - Downloading SAP kernel patches|https://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=19466]
