Hi,

I would like to know how to restore. Can some one please help me?

At 5pm, an online backup of SPP was performed. It backed up all datafiles and control file

At 6pm, I created datafile 1250 and datafile 1251. I then take a backup of datafile 1250, datafile 1251 and the new control files.

At 7pm, I need to do a restore. How would I do a restore, roll forward and recover the two new datafiles created too ?

Thanks & Regards

Srinivas.

Hi Srinivas

If you a performing a full DB recovery at 7pm. You would :

1) recover database from 5pm backup

2) recover new data file created at 6pm

3) apply redo logs from 5pm onward.

The recovery doesn't recreate the datafiles created at 6pm. The rollforward will stop at the point where the files were recreated and you cannot continue past this point until there (re)created or restored.

Hello Srinivas,

1) Restore the backup from 5pm

2) Starting recovery with the archivelogs (and maybe available online redologs) - in this step you have todo some manual step, if you are not using RMAN

Metalinknote 29430.1 describes how it works. In your case you have to look at the point

"B. Old controlfile, no backup of datafile (Oracle release 7.3.x and above)".

With this information you also see that your backup at 6 pm is "needless", because of you can recover your database without that backup.

Stefan
