File size problem on HP-UX

Former Member

Hello,

i have a problem with the filesize on HP-UX 11.11 os level.

One of my customer is starting a report in the system.

This report is generating a spool list in the global directory, the global directory is mounted with NFSv3.

/nfs/xxxsap on xxxna123a:/vol/xxxna123_v123/xxxsap rsize=32768,wsize=32768,NFSv3 on Sat Aug 30 09:24:16 2008

The job is failing after when the spool file has a size from 2 GB and i have no idea what the problem is.

NFSv2 has a filesize border about 2 GB, but not NFSv3.

I have no informations about a R/3 parameter about the maximum file size on OS Level

Any ideas?

Regards,

Markus

you have to mount the filesystem with large filesystem support option.

follow http://docs.hp.com/en/5965-4406/ch04s09.html

Sunil is correct, but the filesystem also has to be created with large file support. You can verify this with the fstyp command (on the nfs server, not on the client):

root# fstyp -v /dev/vg00/lvol1
...
f_flag: 16
...

f_flag: 16 means large file, f_flag: 0 means no large files.

Best regards, Michael

Edit: and btw, yes your User should NOT create a spool file larger than 2gb :-]]]

THE CUSTOMER IS THE KING

@Sunil:

- your link is for 10.20 , we have 11.11

- the largefile option is for local file systems, we have NFSv3 ... it's not needed for NFSv3 and/or you can't set this for NFSv3

My UNIX colleague created a file bigger than 2 GB dirctly on OS level for a test ...

-rw-rr 1 root root 2411724800 Nov 13 13:00 /nfs/xxxsap/sapmnt/XXX/global/XXXSPOOL/big

... so the OS has no problem.

We run the R/3 report again and the report was also failing by 2 GB file size, so im not sure if any R/3 parameter is creating this error.

Ok, the filesystem does not seem to be an issue then, can you please give us some more detail on the exact error? Can you confirm you store spool files on the filesystem? Just to make sure, usually spool files are not stored on the filesystem, but in the database (table TST03).

Please also have a look a sap note [7140 - Problem printing very large lists|https://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=7140]

It is quite old, but mentions the 2gb limit and some parameter which might help you.

Thanks for your support Michael.

I checked the note:

a. Program terminates due to "CPU time limit exceeded".

=> Profile parameter rdisp/max_wp_runtime

-> is not the problem

-

b. ROLLBACK segment in the data base overflows.

=> Profile parameter rspo/store_location = G

(Data from spool requests is then not stored in data base table TSP03, but instead in files.)

-> DEFAULT.PFL:rspo/store_location = G

-

c. TABLESPACE overflows

not in use ... see b.

-

d. Disk overflows when generating spool request.

not in use ... see b.

We have 16 GB free space in the global directory

-

e. Transaction SP01->List .. ->Display

??? - what is the info for me for this step?

-

f. Error during output editing.

printer link type = "L"

=> Examine profile parameter rspo/to_host/datafile .

rspo/to_host/datafile /usr/sap/XXX/DVEBMGS60/data/++++++++ /usr/sap/XXX/D60/data/++++++++

In that direcory are 8 GB freespace

g. Error in host spooler: disk space

We have in /usr/spool and /var/spool 3,5 GB freespace

i don't see any problems in the file /usr/sap/XXXDBVMGS60/work/stderr2

Hm, i just had a look at the current (ERP 6.0) documentation, and it definitely looks like 2gb is the max size for a spool request:

TemSe cannot administer objects that require more than two gigabytes of storage space, regardless of whether the objects are stored in the database or in the file system. Spool requests of a size greater than two gigabytes must therefore be split into several smaller requests.
