Hello,
is it possible to install databse studio on WinXP x64 ?
I first installed maxdb 7.6 x64, then if I try to install the studio I get the following error:
Finding packages failed!
Cannot create package tree: unresolved dependency: package "server utilities" not found.
The 32bit studio-installation seems not to see the x64 server installation on my system.
best regards
Tiberius
I am having maxdb-studio-desktop-win-32bit-i386-7_7_07_16.
I want to install it in a Windows 7 64-bit OS. But it gives the following error log
Can't open registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP\SAP DBTech":

Also, I tried from c:\windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe also, but it gives the same result.
Please help me install MaxDB Studio

Hi,
I am having the same problem.
I installed MaxDB 7.6 x64 on Win2008 and it works like a dream. I use the Database Manager installed with the database.
I also downloaded the 32-bit 7.7 Database Studio and tried to install but it fails with the same error as above "Cannot ceate package tree: unresolved dependency: package "Server Utilities" not Found".
The logs state that "Software in package "SAP Utilities" (SAPUTL.TGZ) isn't runnable on your system" & "Software in package "BASE" (SDBBAS.TGZ) isn't runnable on your system".
Are you saying that the 32-bit software should install cirrectly on the 64-bit system? And if not are we expectinga 64-bit version to appear?
Many thanks
Ed

I believe that is your problem.

The system is trying to "update" your local database (which is 64bit) with independent binaries from the database studio installation which is 32bit.
Try to install it first without installing a different version before.

yes - this should work.
Do not doubleclick the setup.exe but start it from a 32bit cmd.exe
Start - execute
c:windowsSysWOW64cmd.exe
Then step to the directory where you put the setup.exe and start it. All forked() processes will think it´s a 32bit OS.
Markus
Hmmm,
That didn't work for me.
I even tried c:\windows32\cmd.exe. The same results occur.

for me this didn't work too. I tried to copy the DatabaseStudio-folder from another system and run it with a 32-bit jre, without success. I only get a window with the following message:
(this is only a part of the message)
JVM terminated. Exit code=-1
-Xms40m
.
.
-launcher D:\program files\DatabaseStudio\dbstudio.exe
.
.
-startup D:\program files\DatabaseStudio\plugins\org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.0.v20070606.jar
.
.
-vm D:\program files\DatabaseStudio\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
.
.
I think a x64-jre cannot work because of the 32-bit swt-dll's.
Unfortunately I don't know a lot about eclipse so I have no idea what the problem is.
The studio comes with the database - there's no need of installing a separate database on the system.

> I'm using firefox, which is also "only" a 32bit application
even better
btw: there is a 64bit version: http://www.mozilla-x86-64.com/
> Is there a possibility to install Database Studio without the database ? It is based on Eclipse, so it should not be a problem ?
The installation with install its own database (32bit) by default, no matter if you have a database installed or not.
