Hi, Experts,

We have been install BW server and updated all the patches.

For Kernal update we have been copied the extracted files in E:\usr\sap\HBW\SYS\exe\uc\NtIa64 folder but while

restarting it is not updateding the patch level.

We have downloaded the kernal patch level files from SAP market place & extracted it.

pls. help

Hello Jagdish,

The first question is are you sure that the kernel you are applying is an updated kernel?

You can check this by executing the following command:

e:usrsap<SID>SYSexeuc tia64> disp+work -version

Please check the source and destination kernels for the update. You should always backup the kernel directory prior to performing the udpate.

One possible problem is that when your are applying the kernel update, there are still SAP Services running that have some files open and may stop your file copy of the new kernel. I have observed this issue previously.

Another option for updating the kernel is to use the Java Support Package Manager (JSPM). This process will stop the instance and all the services automatically, update the kernel, and restart the instance.

I have posted a 5 minute video blog on the process for performing this action:

Copy kernel also into E:\usr\sap\HBW\<instance>\exe and restart again.
