Doubt in MDM caomparing with R3

The "Basic data text " field in Basic Data 1 of Material master creation,accepts a long text .

Any anyone tell me,can this be maintained in SAP MDM.?if yes,To which field in Matmas it shuld be mapped?

Which Segment in MATMAS Idoc of R3 does this data holds in?

Plz let me know ASAP.

Hi Shifali,

You can store the Basic data text field in MDM.

- You can create a Text field under the main table for the material repository.

- You can give its length approx to 255 (for a text field)

- A text large can also be used for longer length field.

- You need to map this MDM field with the ECC field TDLINE under the segment E1MTXLM as far as I know

But it maintains only 132 chars,and i need to maintain some 1000+ chars

Hi Shifali,

A Text large field in MDM can hold 333 characters,and i guess ECC will accept only 133 characters per line.

So you need to split the characters in two parts when sending to ECC.

Storing 1000 character field in MDM looks difficult.

Hi Shifali,

Just to add for your info.You can also use the TEXT BLOCK in MDM.

This table in MDM can be used to store larger texts which cannot be holded by the text and the Text large field.

But again while sending to ECC you will need to split the lines as mentioned in my above posts.
