when you upgrade Oracle, this is done with multiple steps:

1. you upgrade binaries (executables) with SETUP.EXE

2. you run DBUA to upgrade the database contents.

3. you may need to run a few SQL requests.

the full process is fully detailed in the upgrade document.

you probably forgot to run steps 2 and 3, and the database will not start because you need to start it using UPGRADE mode.

We just upgraded to oracle patch set 9.2.0.8.0 Now We are not able to start database.

you didn´t post the database start log but the SAP system log.

did you run the necessary SQL scripts to update the database dictionary? It´s not enough to just doubleclick on runinstaller.

have you completed post patch tasks?

Note 539921 - Current patch set for Oracle 9.2.0

follow post installation section.

check Note 491174 - Composite SAP note for ORA-01034
