Hello Everyone,
We have started Prepare Phase on Production after completion of Development, here Problem we are getting now is Transport directory (DIR_TRANS=/usr/sap/trans) of production machine is a Symbolic Link which physically exist on Development system.
If we use the same directory then probably Upgrade is going to run for a very long time or may be forever as physical directory is on a different machine altogether.
Could any one please guide if we can use a local alternate DIR_TRANS for production upgrade.
Regards,
Shafi
Hi Shafi,
you can change the trans dir - that is a bit effort and makes transportation pretty complicated.
If you go with this remotely, only one phase during Prepare takes 2-3h longer than with the physical directory. Then the stuff is copied and works locally from the put directory => no performance difference ...
=> I would leave it as it is ...

Thanks Volker!
We also thought of same approach but as per our previous experiences just for a small transport it took around 5 hrs in remote transport and here in my case we got SR1 exports from SMP and included all the support packs in upgrade itself during development upgrade itself it took a bit more time as expected.
Now we are thinking of removing symbolic link and creating a physical folder on production machine itself.
Is this approach OK, would you suggest this?
Thanks & Regards,
Shafi
