It was asked to me in one round ....
There is a report to be developed in SAP
1. Through ABAP Query
2. Through Program generation.

the report can be developed in both ways which one should be preffered and why?

It depends on the usage(frequency of use) of that report. Query report hampers the performance of the system.

In my openion, ABAP query is the quickest and most feasible way to extract the data as per user's point of view. Just b'coz if user needs to make some changes or extarct some more data he can do the same by himself rather than taking a help of an ABAP'er... provided the user is conversant with the Query process...
And if on everally basis is concerned then APAP report would be advisable so that everyone can use it as and when required...
