Hi Swari,

One simple reason behind SAP-MDM's popularity over other Master Data tools is that it is an SAP Recommented and designed product.

Today most of the industry are SAP run as, SAP run systems are the best run systems.and the ones that are not based on SAP are either transforming or migrating some how to the latest SAP version so as to stabilize and improvise their businesses.

SAP is constantly working on this tool and is coming with an improvement every time. Now the latest version of MDM scheduled to release is the MDM 7.1 which is a great leap in improvement for MDM.

Besides the history of SAP behind MDM.the SAP MDM tool is very well designed to manage the problems of Master data in the present business landscape.

Some of the highlights are as below:

- MDM can integrate with several systems in and out of the SAP landscape.

- Besides Identifying Dulicates in master data which is the prime use of MDM,it can perform many other tasks as well.

- Data governance using Workflows is an important feature of MDM

- Data completeness, accuracy and consistency can be very easily met using SAP MDM.

- SAP MDM is user friendly in design and use.

- It is a Configuration driven tool so no coding is required.

- There are predefined business packages available with this tool. etc.

Hope It Helped

Thanks & Regards

As more and more companies embark on business initiatives such as Global Data Synchronization, RFID and supply chain collaborations, and technology initiatives such as Services Oriented Architecture (SOA), the need for Master Data Management (MDM) has never been greater. As a consequence of this demand, competing MDM solutions have proliferated, causing quite a bit of confusion among SAP customers evaluating SAP NetWeaver MDM 5.5 against the growing host of non-SAP MDM solutions.

When evaluating various MDM solutions, SAP shops are well advised to pay equal attention to a solutionsu2019 ability to make data useful to consuming applications as well as to a solutionu2019s technical capacity for integrating data--data models, acquisition, cleansing, integration, synchronization, metadata management, architecture, etc.

When both of these key areas are measured carefully, SAP NetWeaver MDM 5.5 emerges as the clear choice for SAP customers, particularly those committed to the NetWeaver stack or standardizing on SAP R/3.

SAP NetWeaver MDM is a robust, scalable, easy-to-install solution that allows SAP customers to maximize existing systems and introduce vital data governance techniques. Built on the NetWeaver platform, this solution allows for excellent connectivity with mySAP ERP and other SAP products. SAP NetWeaver MDM comes with data models for PIM and CDI that match SAP R/3 data models, providing the best in data utilization and data integration for SAP customers.

In addition, SAP NetWeaver MDM allows SAP customers to use an existing infrastructure team and resources, which contributes significantly to reducing TCO and accelerating ROI. Additional benefits for SAP customers deploying SAP NetWeaver MDM include the following: :

SAP MDM 5.5 comes with prepackaged data models for Customers, Vendors, Materials and Employees.

SAP MDM 5.5 has predefined integration maps with mySAP ERP, BI and other SAP components.

SAP MDM 5.5 supports integration to core SAP components through ABAP APIu2019s and IDOCs ; and to non-SAP components through JAVA APIs and Webservices.

SAP MDM 5.5 provides tools for defining business rules, taxonomy and relationships, making it well suited for governance initiatives.

SAP MDM 5.5 components like Import Manager, Data Manager and Syndication Manager allow validating, cleansing, mapping, moving and managing data.

SAP MDM 5.5 is part of the NetWeaver stack, enabling easy integration through Exchange Infrastructure (XI) to Transactions apps (like mySAP ERP, mySAP CRM, etc.), Content (like unstructured data, web, etc.), and Analytics systems (like SAP BW).
